Wreaths Across America Arrive at the Cave Creek National Cemetery {Melyna Fang Portraits, North Phoenix Photographer}

Today, National Cemeteries across the country held Christmas wreath-laying ceremonies, sponsored by donations to Wreaths Across America. The mission of Wreaths Across America is to "Remember, Honor, Teach" and "is carried out in part by coordinating wreath laying ceremonies...at Arlington, as well as veterans’ cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states and beyond."
Today's ceremony included a performance of the National Anthem, a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, a traditional Scottish Highlander ceremony, and several speeches by dignitaries such as the Arizona Secretary of State and a Gold Star Wife. The wreath-laying ceremony closed with the attendees holding hands while singing Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA." It was very emotional and overwhelmingly patriotic.
I had read that some cemeteries only receive a wreath to honor each branch, so I was glad to see that there were hundreds of wreaths brought to the Cave Creek National Cemetery, and all the attendees were invited to place wreaths on the graves of those who had honored their country by serving and sacrificing for it. Many family members of veterans, such as myself, do not get to visit the graves of their loved ones often, so I felt honored to have this opportunity. My children and I laid several wreaths by the headstones. These were just a few my family and I were able to honor. Unfortunately, there were not enough wreaths to honor ever veteran laid to rest in this cemetery. We plan on making this a new Christmas tradition for our family, and hope that you will to. Thank you to all who have served and sacrificed for our country.

Merry Christmas to all our veterans and their families!
